The “Next Generation Ion” or Ion 2 as we like to call it is the latest chip which works side by side the brand new Intel Atom Processors. Nvidia lists these at the key features to Ion 2:
> Fuse great performance and great battery life on Next Generation NVIDIA ION
netbooks featuring NVIDIA® Optimus technology*
> Over 10 times the performance of integrated graphics
> Experience 1080p HD video on sites like YouTube HD or from Blu-Ray discs
> Play the most popular PC games like World of Warcraft and Spore
> Delivers the Windows 7 Home Premium experience
Gaming seems to be the big focus of the Ion 2 and from early testing it seems to be pretty decent improvement. One of the main issues though is that Intel changed the architecture of the Atom chip and the Ion no longer has a direction connection the the ATOM it has to use the PCIe to connect which currently is causing slow down in flash as it lets less information through. Nvidia is promising a new driver in June 2010 to fix this. However overall most new system will feature the ION 2 and if the prices are similar it is definitely worth a look.
